ST. GEORGE, UTAH – The Washington County Farm Bureau was recognized as the top County Farm Bureau of its size at the most recent Utah Farm Bureau Convention held in Layton, Davis County.

County Farm Bureaus are judged on six categories of achievement and are awarded ‘Gold Stars’ based on excellence in those categories. Washington County Farm Bureau earned five of six ‘Gold Stars’ at the convention.

The six categories include membership development, policy development, policy implementation, women’s programs, young farmer & rancher programs, and safety & rural health programs. The categories are designed to encourage leadership development, safety and active civic participation among members of the agricultural community.

“We are honored to receive these five gold stars and are proud of the work our county Farm Bureau members have achieved,” said Colette Wadsworth, Washington County Farm Bureau President. “Washington County has a strong agricultural heritage and we’re happy to be able to continue that. The programs these stars represent are important because it helps us in promoting and maintaining agriculture in the community.”

Washington County Farm Bureau was recognized because of its work in implementing and developing policy related local agriculture, as well as its plans to grow Farm Bureau membership and enhance women’s programs in the county. It placed first among County Farm Bureaus in Category 4, the largest, which includes the largest agricultural producing counties such as Utah, Cache, Box Elder, Davis, and Salt Lake Counties.

County Farm Bureaus can also submit details about their programs and achievements to the American Farm Bureau for consideration for the ‘Counties of Excellence’ awards presented at the American Farm Bureau Convention in January. The convention this year will be held in Seattle, Washington. More information about the activities of the Washington County Farm Bureau is available by contacting Colette Wadsworth at 435-635-2992.
