SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH - US Senate candidate Tim Bridgewater issued the following statement calling for action rather than lip service from Senator Bob Bennett:  "Bob is spending thousands of dollars to go on TV and tell Utahns what they already know - that Obamacare is bad for America.  I'd like to remind Senator Bennett that actions speak louder than words.

Rather than paying lip service to this critical issue, Senator Bennett should use the one tool available to the minority party in the Senate. I call on Senator Bennett to publicly declare to the Democrat leaders that he will take the floor and filibuster the health care debate until the Democrats allow for an honest negotiation. If there was ever a time when we've needed Mr. Smith Goes to Washington type courage in the United States Senate, it is now."  Bridgewater said.

Bridgewater, who opposes any form of government run healthcare, rolled out his first issue paper on healthcare policy earlier this week.  Available at www.timbridgewater.com, this issue paper lists four simple bills he would sponsor in order to reduce the costs of healthcare delivery and keep the federal government from mandating the decisions between doctors and patients.

The bills include topics such as the expansion of health savings accounts, allowing the purchase of insurance across state lines, and legal reforms to reduce frivolous lawsuits that encourage the practice of defensive medicine.

Bridgewater is challenging three-term Senator Bob Bennett. A recent poll of voters statewide shows that if the election were held today only one third of registered Republican voters would re-elect Bennett to his fourth term. More than half would prefer another candidate and 15% of voters were undecided.

Editor's note: Bridgewater will continue his "29 Counties in 29 Days" tour this weekend with visits to the Uintah Basin.  Watch his website for times and locations of scheduled events.
